A good kitchen fit is mostly preparation: straight walls, level floors, services in the right place and an extraction route that works. Our teams handle the full sequence including electrics and gas connections by suitably registered engineers.

Does kitchen installation need planning permission?

England

A new kitchen does not need planning permission. Some electrical work must be notified under building regulations, and gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Wales

A new kitchen does not need planning permission. Notifiable electrical work and Gas Safe registered gas work rules apply.

Scotland

A new kitchen does not need planning permission. Some alterations, such as new drainage or structural work, may need a building warrant.

Northern Ireland

A new kitchen does not need planning permission. Electrical and gas work must be done by suitably qualified and registered engineers.

What about building regulations?

New circuits and some electrical work are notifiable, gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and extraction must meet ventilation requirements.

What should I think about before starting?

  • Worktops in stone or quartz are templated after the units go in, adding a week or two.
  • Moving the sink may need a new waste route or pump.
  • Induction hobs often need a dedicated circuit.
  • Extraction ducted outside works far better than recirculation.
